In a perfect world, you should be able to develop your web applications without having to understand the difference between SOAP and REST, WSDL and WADL or XML and JSON. In a perfect world, you should be able to code your applications in the language of your choice, whether that’s Ruby, Java, PHP or an XML based language such as BPEL4WS. That perfect world is our vision and the inspiration behind our product - the alakai application cloud.

Whether you’re building enterprise mashups or migrating to a service oriented architecture, alakai allows you to leverage your existing assets and focus on the core value of your implementation - the application logic. The cloud provides the rest - the transports, messaging protocols and an extensible set of QOS related features including security, asynchronous messaging and reliable message delivery.
The alakai cloud is standards based. Because the SOA Approach to systems design has no defining standard, it can be used to brand pretty much any internet related software package as SOA If you're considering SOA, your platform should, at the very least, implement the first five standards listed here.
The alakai cloud is extensible. It allows you to plug-in just about any abstract piece of behavior or technology which can then be shared across applications. Similarly, as new standards are developed, they can be abstracted and plugged in as well. A listing of the currently available extensions can be found here, along with a separate listing for the available features.
